Well, another decision needs to be made on whether to extend unemployment benefits or not. I know this is a sensitive topic and many of us feel passionately for or against the extension. However, the argument should not be misunderstood. It is an argument of how to pay for the extension. Should the money be taken from the economic stimulus package? Should Congress establish budget cuts to find the money? Why don't we just add the 34 billion dollars needed to extend unemployment for the next four months onto our measly 13 trillion dollar national debt?
Ok, by now you have to be thinking to yourself, well, any of those options are viable. I happen to agree. However, when you look at these options for funding again, they are not so cut and dry. Option 1, Economic Stimulus Package. Well, who knows what's left and to be honest, who knows what it's being used for. Option 2, Congress established budget cuts...... give me a break, they couldn't balance a budget if they got paid to....Option 3, tack it on to the national debt....like our grandchildren don't have enough to pay for due to our excessive spending. Now, I am definately not an economist or financial advisor, I could barely balance my own check book. However, I do know where we can get 7.5 billion right away!!!! http://afghanistan.blogs.cnn.com/2010/07/19/clinton-unveils-major-aid-package-to-pakistan/
Again, I am not an economist by any means, but I am an American citizen who can not seem to justify certain actions by our elected officials.
Any opinions on this?
